Current Class Activities & Assignments for English IV-A (Pds. 1, 2, & 3):

 

April 15, 2013:  Students continued their study of Tess of the D'Urbervilles.

 

April 16, 2013:  Students continued their study of Tess of the D'Urbervilles.  They will have a quiz over it Thursday.

 

April 17, 2013:  Students reviewed for their quiz over Tess of the D'Urbervilles.

 

April 18, 2013:  Students completed their quiz over Tess of the D'Urbervilles.

 

April 19, 2013:  Students took notes over the historical introduction to the final literature unit: Modern and Contemporary Writers.

 

April 22, 2013:  Students began reading D. H. Lawrence's "The Rocking Horse Winner" after reviewing all parts of the historical introduction completed in class on Friday.

 

April 23, 2013:  Students finished their study of "The Rocking Horse Winner." 

 

April 24, 2013:  Classes continued their view of modernist writings by reading three Yeats poems.  

 

April 25, 2013:  Students began an introduction to the writing of James Joyce. 

 

April 26, 2013:  Students finished the Joyce story and began a study of the writings of Virginia Woolf.  students also completed their senior awards information.

 

April 29, 2013:  Students finished their study of Virginia Woolf.  Graphic Organizers and figurative language question work is due at the start of class tomorrow.

 

April 30, 2013:  Students began reading a non-fiction essay and completing analyses of details used and causal links in the text.  The students will finish the essay tomorrow and the analytical responses will be due at the end of each class period.

 

May 1, 2013:  Students finished work on the Orwell essay and turned in their work.

 

May 2, 2013:  Students viewed short videos.

 

May 3, 2013:  Students viewed short videos.

 

May 6, 2013:  Students began their study of a modern British novel (or late-Romantic/early-Victorian novel in 3rd period) via video adaptation.

 

May 7, 2013:  Students continued their video study of a modern British novel.

Current Class Activities & Assignments for APE Lit. (Pds. 4, 6, & 7):

 

April 15, 2013:  Students turned in their third round of major work rough draft paragraphs, and continued reading Act I of A Doll's House.

 

April 16, 2013:  Students completed their reading of Act I of A Doll's House.  Students are expected to work on synthesis paper rough draft paragraphs as homework until the final paper is completed and turned in for a grade.

 

April 17, 2013:  Students completed questions and activities over Act I of A Doll's House.  Students conferred with their teacher about rough draft portions and are to finish their next round of synthesis paper paragraphs.

 

April 18, 2013:  Students considered how to improve their synthesis paper paragraphs in revision before the final copy, and began reading Act II of A Doll's House.  Students turned in their first minor work paragraphs.

 

April 19, 2013:  Students completed a round of multiple-choice practice, and received synthesis paper paragraphs with feedback.

 

April 22, 2013:  Students turned in their second minor work paragraphs and continued reading Act II of A Doll's House.  Seventh period finished reading the act.

 

April 23, 2013:  Students in periods four and six finished reading Act II of A Doll's House.  Some students received minor work paragraphs with feedback.  Classes began discussing how to cite works in the final paper, and how to construct the Works Cited page at the end of the paper.

 

April 24, 2013:  Due to the Scholars' luncheon interrupting fourth period, students were given time in class to compose their conclusion rough drafts, which will be due tomorrow.

 

April 25, 2013:  Students turned in conclusion drafts and began reading Act III of A Doll's House.

 

April 26, 2013:  Students completed their senior awards information, received any remaining portions of synthesis paper rough drafts, and finished their reading of Act III of A Doll's House.  Students received additional information about MLA paper formatting and revision of synthesis paper rough drafts.

 

April 29, 2013:  Students received and reviewed the contents of the Awesome Packet.  Seventh period students completed their reading of A Doll's House.

 

April 30, 2013:  Students in fourth period assisted with the IT department's replacement of laptop batteries, sixth period reviewed open-response questions and strategies for responding, and seventh period students completed their timed essays over A Doll's House.

 

May 1, 2013:  Fourth and Sixth period students completed their timed writings over A Doll's House; most seventh period students attended Baccalaureate practice off campus.

 

May 2, 2013:  Students reviewed information from the review packet, and considered how to improve the opening statements of body paragraphs in their essays.

 

May 3, 2013:  Students completed a full multiple-choice practice test.

 

May 6, 2013:  Students reviewed the May 6 reading from the Awesome Packet, looked at sentences to empower body paragraphs, reviewed a multiple-choice passage or two from Friday's practice test, and viewed a brief review video of a major work.

 

May 7, 2013:  Students reviewed the May 7 reading from the Awesome Packet, looked at a Q3 essay prompt and responses, and evaluated them.  Students are to continue reviewing information in the Awesome Packet until exam time.

 

May 8, 2013:  Fourth period students continued looking at information from the Awesome Packet and other classes attended Spring Fling.
