Welcome to Senior English!
Current Class Activities & Assignments for AP English (Pds. 1-5):
Monday, November 23, 2009: Class began with students turning in their Act V graphic organizers. Students then completed a 100-item test over The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. As homework, students are to continue memorizing the "To be, or not to be" soliloquy for recitation before December 4, 2009, and students should be reading their independent study selections as well.
Tuesday, November 24, 2009: Due to overwhelming absences in most sections, students who attended on this day were given time to read their independent study selections, and work on memorizing the "To be, or not to be" soliloquy for recitation. These two activities comprise the only homework students should attend to before returning to class on November 30, 2009. Students who needed the class time were also able to make up any missed work or tests.
Monday, November 30, 2009: Class began with students and the teacher going over possible times to recite the memorized "To be, or not to be" soliloquy, with students signing up to recite. The teacher then pointed out how little time remains in the semester, and what the plan for instruction is leading up to semester exams. In several classes, time was provided for students to present their sonnet projects. As homework, students should be memorizing the "To be, or not to be" soliloquy, and reading their independent study selections.
Current Class Activities & Assignments for English IV-A (Pd. 7):
Monday, November 23, 2009: Class began with students receiving copies of "The Wife of Bath's Prologue" and students divided into groups to read through the Wife of Bath's descriptions of each of her marriages. Then students came back together, and each group presented to the class what they read about each particular husband. The class then read "The Wife of Bath's Tale" and discussed the theme and debated whether Chaucer intended to support women's rights with the creation of this particular character and inclusion of her story.
Tuesday, November 24, 2009: Students who were present read more of a young adult novel with the teacher and then viewed a historic video.
Monday, November 30, 2009: Class began with students and the teacher discussing attendance, the semester test exemption policy, and time remaining in the semester and plans for instruction during that time. The class then received copies of the weekly vocabulary lesson and instructions for completing the historical introduction to the English Renaissance, on pages 80-91 in The Holt Reader. Students should have both tasks completed before returning to class tomorrow.
