Class Activities and Assignments :

Monday, February 1, 2016:  Students began class by working in groups to complete the Frankenstein Chapters XVII-XXI graphic organizer, and sharing their results.  Students then gave their attention to a thematic thesis statement generator and handout.  Students began reading Chapter XXII.  As homework, students are to begin completion of the final graphic organizer, and read Chapters XXII-XXIII of the novel.

Tuesday, February 2, 2016:  Students began class by reading through two sample essays and scoring them according to the nine-point scoring guides.  A discussion followed, and then students read a top-scoring essay as a comparison.  Students received an infographic that offers a suggested format to follow for completing a literary analysis essay over a major literary work.  Some classes had time to begin reading the final chapter of Frankenstein.  As homework, students are to finish reading the novel, review themes, and complete the final graphic organizer that will be due at the start of class tomorrow.

Wednesday, February 3, 2016:  Students turned in their final Frankenstein graphic organizer and completed a timed writing task as the essay portion of their comprehensive Frankenstein test.  As homework, students are to review the novel in preparation for the objective test that will be given in class tomorrow.

Thursday, February 4, 2016:  Students completed the objective portion of their comprehensive Frankenstein test.  There is no homework in AP English for the Davis squad this evening.

Friday, February 5, 2016:  Students viewed clips of various screen adaptations of Frankenstein, comparing them to the actual text studied.  There is no homework in AP English for the Davis squad this weekend.

Monday, February 8, 2016:  Students entered class and picked up an anticipation guide for Hamlet. Students are to follow instructions and complete the guide before returning to class tomorrow, when it will be due.  Students viewed a video that introduced them to the life and times of William Shakespeare.

Tuesday, February 9, 2016:  Students entered class and picked up a copy of the Act I graphic organizer for Hamlet.  Students turned in their Hamlet anticipation guide work and then took some pre-reading notes.  Most classes had to finish the previous day's video, and most classes began reading Act I, scene i of Hamlet.

Wednesday, February 10, 2016:  Students entered class and read Hamlet, Act I, scene i, and part of scene ii.  Students received mid-quarter grade reports.  As homework, students are to review the reading thus far and take any notes necessary to guarantee recall, and have mid-quarter progress reports signed by a parent/guardian.

Thursday, February 11, 2016:  Students turned in signed mid-quarter reports and continued their reading with note-taking of Hamlet, Act I.  As homework, students are to review the first three scenes of Act I.

Friday, February 12, 2016:  Students completed their guided reading of Act I of Hamlet in class.  As homework, students should  complete the Act I graphic organizer, which will be due at the start of class Tuesday.  At the end of class Tuesday, there will be a quotes quiz over Act I; students need to review the five scenes of Act I to be fully prepared for that quiz.
