Class Activities and Assignments :

Monday, September 28, 2015:  Students worked on the remainder of the literary terms list as bell work.  Students began reviewing the Syntax analysis packet with the teacher and completed Assignment One in class.  As homework, students are to complete Assignment Two (in the Syntax packet).

Tuesday, September 29, 2015:  Class began with students sharing sentences they created in response to the second assignment in the Syntax packet.  Students then worked in pairs to complete the third assignment in the Syntax packet, and shared their answers with the rest of the class.  Students picked up a Tone and Language Terms (sorted into categories) page as well as a Tone vocabulary page, and had remaining time in class to define all terms on the Tone vocabulary page.  The tone vocabulary will be checked for a grade at the start of class tomorrow.

Wednesday, September 30, 2015:  The teacher checked TONE vocabulary work to start class.  Students picked up a Syntax Analysis Practice task as they entered the classroom.  Most of class time was devoted to students completing a timed writing task.  As homework, students are to finish the syntax analysis practice sheet. It will be due at the start of class tomorrow.

Thursday, October 1, 2015:  Students turned in their syntax analysis practice and then completed a new round of AP Exam multiple-choice practice.  Students then worked on language and tone identification.  As homework, students are to finish both sides of the language and tone identification sheet.

Friday, October 2, 2015:  Students reviewed the prose passage and correct answers to the multiple-choice practice from yesterday. Students then shared their tone identification practice answers with the class.  The teacher checked students' literary terms in their bell work booklets and students began work on another tone analysis practice.

Monday, October 5, 2015:  Students reviewed tone analysis answers with the teacher and went to the auditorium lobby for yearbook photographs.  There is no homework in AP English this evening.

Tuesday, October 6, 2015:  Students entered class and picked up a copy of "Miss Brill."  Students took notes over characterization, and then received tone poster instructions and supplies.  Students read the short story with the teacher.  As homework, students are to create their tone poster and finish all characterization notes over "Miss Brill."

Wednesday, October 7, 2015:  Students showed the teacher their notes over "Miss Brill," and then shared their tone posters with the class.  The teacher reviewed the prompt and prose passage from last week's timed writing task, and gave pointers to all students for improving their work.  Students then had some time to revise their timed writing work from last week.  There is no homework in AP English this evening.

Thursday, October 8, 2015:  Students entered class and picked up instructions for today and tomorrow, as well as a scan-tron form, a note-taking sheet, and a characterization practice sheet.  Students completed multiple-choice practice and then used books in class to take notes over the Victorian Age.  After completion of those notes, students were to read the prose passage and take characterization notes over the central character discussed.  The characterization notes will be due at the start of class tomorrow.  The Victorian Age notes will be due by the end of class tomorrow.
