Class Activities and Assignments :

Monday, August 17, 2015:  Students turned in completed tasks from the optional summer assignment, and filled out a "Getting to Know You" form as bell work. Students received copies of the course syllabus and parent letters. Students took time to review the course information and compile questions for discussion with the teacher and fellow classmates. Students then received a copy of "The Flowers," a short fiction piece by Alice Walker. As homework, students are to have the parent letter signed, read "Why Literature Matters," and complete all work over "The Flowers"--reading, annotation, and answering of all  (10 of 16) questions.

Tuesday, August 18, 2015:  Students turned in signed parent letters and showed their work on "The Flowers" to the teacher.  Students then took notes over the qualities and dispositions that lead to student success.  As homework, students are to use the "Planning for an Awesome College Essay" sheet to research at least three of the websites on that sheet.
