Class Activities and Assignments for AP English Lit. & Comp. (all periods):

Monday, January 5, 2015:  Students entered class and those who completed the optional winter assignment turned in their work.  The teacher discussed upcoming units of study and expectations for the second semester.  Some time in class was devoted to perusing information through the link to college/university AP score requirements.  Class ended with students and the teacher reading and paraphrasing "My Last Duchess" by Robert Browning.  There is no homework in AP English this evening.

Tuesday, January 6, 2015:  Students completed an IMAGERY voice lesson as bell work.  Classes completed their reading and discussion of "My Last Duchess."  Students received copies of "The Story of an Hour" and a "Beefing up Commentary" practice sheet.  Students are to read the story and complete the practice sheet before returning to class tomorrow.

Wednesday, January 7, 2015:  Students entered class and turned in their "Beefing up Commentary" work after a brief discussion of it.  Students then received a weekly PLOTTSS assignment and the teacher reviewed expectations for the completion of all notes.  Some classes had time to read some articles regarding literary criticism, but others did not.  The teacher informed students of the nature of the timed writing task that will occur in class tomorrow.  As homework, students should work on completion of PLOTTSS notes.

Thursday, January 8, 2015:  Students completed a timed prose analysis writing in class.  Students should continue working on their PLOTTSS notes as homework.

Friday, January 9, 2015:  Students completed and reviewed answers for a round of AP Exam multiple-choice practice.  Students then viewed their performance on "Beefing up Commentary," with the teacher commenting on how students can continue to improve their commentary statements to craft better analysis.  As homework, students are to be completing notes for the weekly PLOTTSS poem ("Aunt Jennifer's Tigers").

Monday, January 12, 2015:  Students entered class and read through a handout and graphic organizer contrasting summation and analysis.  Students then received an introductory handout about Charlotte Bronte.  Students viewed an introductory biographic video and then received a second handout they are to read through before returning to class.  As additional homework, students should be finishing their PLOTTSS notes which will be due at the start of class Wednesday.

Tuesday, January 13, 2015:  Students entered class and read about the status of women in Victorian society as bell work.  Students then viewed a brief video about gothic elements (first period watched part of the biographic video about the Bronte sisters).  Students received books, reading schedules, and the first study guides/graphic organizers, then began reading Jane Eyre.  Students are to read according to the assigned schedule and begin work on the study guide/graphic organizer, AND complete all PLOTTSS notes.

Wednesday January 14, 2015:  Students completed their timed PLOTTSS writing as bell work.  After all PLOTTSS writings were completed, the class discussed the opening chapters of Jane Eyre.  As homework, students are to continue reading according to the assigned schedule, and finish work on the first study guide, which will be due at the start of class tomorrow.

Thursday, January 15, 2015:  Students entered class and turned in their first Jane Eyre study guide and graphic organizer work.  Students picked up the second Jane Eyre study guide and graphic organizer--it will be due at the start of class next Wednesday.  Students completed diploma cards.  The teacher reviewed the prompt and passage from last Thursday's timed writing practice.  Students then had the remaining time in class to make revisions to their first attempt on the essay to add to their scores.  As homework, students are to continue reading according to the assigned schedule for Jane Eyre, and begin work on the second study guide.
