Class Activities and Assignments for AP English Lit. & Comp. (all periods):

 

Monday, November 10, 2014:  Students turned in their "Miss Brill" work and took some basic PLOT notes.  As homework, students are to read "The Lesson" and plot out the story on a PLOT diagram.  The diagram/notes are due at the start of class tomorrow.

 

Tuesday, November 11, 2014:  The teacher checked PLOT pyramid notes, and a brief conversation about the theme and plot of "The Lesson" followed.  Then the teacher and students began discussing POINT OF VIEW.  Students are to complete their practice POINT OF VIEW analysis paragraph as homework.  It will be due at the start of class tomorrow.

 

Wednesday, November 12, 2014:  Students turned in their POV analysis work and picked up copies of "The Birthday Party," and read it.  Students used class time to re-write the story from a different perspective.  This re-write is due at the start of class tomorrow.

 

Thursday, November 13, 2014:  Students entered class and completed their eleventh round of AP Exam multiple-choice practice as bell work.  Students then worked in groups, sharing their POV re-writes with classmates.  All POV re-writes were turned in at the end of class.  There is no homework assigned for this evening.

 

Friday, November 14, 2014:  Students entered class and reviewed the correct answers and information pertaining to the previous day's multiple-choice practice. Students received a packet discussing analysis of ORGANIZATION.  Students read through the packet and composed two practice chunks, analyzing the ORGANIZATION of content in two separate poems.  The chunk work will be due at the start of class Monday.

 

Monday, November 17, 2014:  Students shared their ORGANIZATION work with the teacher, and then students took brief notes over Romanticism.  Students began reading "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" in class.  As homework, students are to complete their reading and complete all work on the reading guide.  It will be due at the start of class tomorrow.

 

Tuesday, November 18, 2014:  Students turned in their "Ancient Mariner" work and then completed an anticipation guide for Frankenstein.  Students received copies of the book as well as a graphic organizer for the first night's reading and a reading schedule for the entire book.  Students read through biographical information about Mary Shelley and then the class read the Author's Introduction, the Preface (written by Percy Bysshe Shelley), and began reading the letters.  Students are to read according to the assigned schedule, and complete the first graphic organizer--it will be due at the start of class tomorrow.

 

Wednesday, November 19, 2014:  Students turned in their graphic organizer over the letters that begin Frankenstein, and received the next graphic organizer (over Chapters I-X).  Students read part of Chapters I-IV in class.  As homework, students are to finish reading the first four chapters of the novel, and complete notes over the characters encountered in the reading on the graphic organizer.

 

Thursday, November 20, 2014:  Students completed another round of AP Exam multiple-choice question practice as bell work.  After that, students continued reading in Frankenstein.  As homework, students are to finish their assigned reading for the day, and continue work on the Chapters I-X graphic organizer.

 

Friday, November 21, 2014:  Students entered class and reviewed multiple-choice practice as bell work.  Students then resumed reading and discussing Frankenstein.  As homework, students are to finish assigned reading and continue work on the Chapters I-X graphic organizer.

 

Monday, November 24, 2014:  Students entered class and picked up a new graphic organizer for Chapters XI-XVI.  The teacher conducted a brief discussion over the weekend reading assignment. Students began reading Chapters IX and X.  Students completed the Chapters I-X graphic organizer and turned it in at the end of class.  As homework, students are to finish assigned reading and continue work on the Chapters XI-XVI graphic organizer.

 

Tuesday, November 25, 2014:  The majority of students were absent via using an ACTAAP Success Day.  Students are to continue reading through Chapter Thirteen of Frankenstein before returning to class.  Most students have the new graphic organizer and should be recording information from the reading on it.
