Class Activities and Assignments for AP English Lit. & Comp. (all periods):

 

Monday, October 13, 2014:  Students turned in their study guide work and reviewed answers to the close-reading practice.  In periods 2 and 7, students paired off and completed the close-reading practice before reviewing their answers.

 

Tuesday, October 14, 2014:  Students finished close-reading practice review and then took some notes over LANGUAGE as bell work.  Students then received study guide questions for Part III of Heart of Darkness.  Students are to read pages 53-59 as homework tonight, completing study guide questions as they read.

 

Wednesday, October 15, 2014:  Students completed a SYNTAX voice lesson as bell work, and then continued their reading and discussion of Heart of Darkness.  Students are to read through the the first half of page 66 and complete study guide work that corresponds to the pages of Part III they have read so far.

 

Thursday, October 16, 2014:  Students did not have a bell work task.  Students received a list of quotes from Part III of Heart of Darkness to identify and analyze.  All Part III work (quotation analysis and study guide) will be due at the start of class Monday.  Students are to finish reading the novel, completing all Part III work, and come to class prepared for a reading quiz over Part III on Monday.

 

Monday, October 20, 2014:  Students turned in Part III study guide and quotations work, and then completed a reading quiz as bell work.  Students then took notes on thematic possibilities in Heart of Darkness.  As homework, students are to continue reviewing the novel and research online study guides for more assistance with theme statement development.

 

Tuesday, October 21, 2014:  Students took notes over prompt-answering strategies, and received a graphic organizer for planning their timed writing responses, as well as a copy of "The Hollow Men" and questions to answer while/after reading the poem.  First period students will receive the poetry work tomorrow.  In all classes, the poetry work will be due Thursday at the start of class.  As homework, students are to continue reviewing the novel in preparation for both days of testing, and begin working on the poetry homework.
