Current Class Activities & Assignments for APE Lit. (Periods 1, 3, 4, 6, & 7):

Monday, October 14, 2013:  Students completed a voice lesson over syntax and briefly discussed and shared from it and their creative writing that was due.  Students turned in their creative writing and other point of view work over "The Birthday Party."

Tuesday, October 15, 2013:  Students entered class and heard a brief presentation about scholar opportunities at UALR.  Students received SYNTAX packets and instructions for the first exercise (sentence analysis).  Students then worked in groups to categorize and sort the 105 TONE vocabulary terms.  The sentence analysis task from the SYNTAX packet is to be completed as homework, and will be due at the start of class tomorrow.

Wednesday, October 16, 2013:  Students showed their sentence analysis work to the teacher, then completed a timed writing.  Students are to complete the remainder of the SYNTAX packet, using the Douglass passage as the text for their sample chunk.  That work will be due tomorrow.

Thursday, October 17, 2013:  Students went to the auditorium lobby to have yearbook photographs taken; morning classes also experienced delays due to students going to the lobby to place their orders for graduation supplies.  When students made their way back to class, the TONE groups got back together to finish sorting the terms.  Once sorted, groups selected their favorite of the four categories they created, and ranked the TONE terms in that grouping.  On Monday, students will work in groups to create a visual for their favored category that creatively displays the terms as well as their ranking/progression.  There is NO homework for the long weekend.

Friday, October 18, 2013:  Students did not report to school.

Monday, October 21, 2013:  As bell work, the teacher gave a forecast of the week's assignments.  Students then divided into their TONE analysis groups and created a poster of their TONE category's gradient.  Posters were due by the end of class.  As homework, students are to get or take a photograph of their mothers or a mother-like figure.  It is preferable that the picture be in digital form.

Tuesday, October 22, 2013:  Students completed a brief ACT English review as bell work, including a review of the answers.  Students received a final packet of style analysis notes and the SYNTAX assignment that is to be completed with a picture of their mothers.  This assignment is due at the start of class Thursday.

Wednesday, October 23, 2013:  Students completed a brief ACT Science review as bell work.  Students began a closer reading of the prose passage that they analyzed in last week's timed essay.  Students are to finish their SYNTAX imitation writings and email both the writings and the photographs to the teacher before the start of class tomorrow.

Thursday, October 24, 2013:  Students should have turned in their SYNTAX assignment by the time class began.  Students completed an ACT Reading practice passage as bell work.  Students then read through a prose analysis essay prompt from an old AP Exam with the teacher.  Students worked in pairs to draft an introductory paragraph for an essay response to the prompt.  Students shared from their introduction and then the pairs joined with others to form groups of four.  In the foursomes, students worked together to select a device/technique and write a "chunk" for that device/technique.  Students shared their chunks with the class.  As homework, students are to draft notes for the rest of the essay without fully writing it.
