Current Class Activities & Assignments for APE Lit. (Periods 1, 3, 4, 6, & 7):

 

Monday, September 16, 2013:  Students turned in weekend homework and took an ACT Reading practice test. As homework, students are to read "A Worn Path" and answer questions #1-6 at the end of the story (pages 223-231).  This work is due Wednesday. 

 

Tuesday, September 17, 2013:  Students received the results from their practice ACT Reading tests taken in class yesterday and tabulated scores.  The teacher used class time to discuss specific areas of potential score growth on the test and methods of tackling the test.  Students are to finish their work with "A Worn Path" that will be due at the start of class tomorrow.

 

Wednesday, September 18, 2013:  Students turned in homework and took an ACT Science Reasoning practice test.  As homework, students are to share mid-quarter progress reports with parents/guardians, and return them with required signatures in class tomorrow.

 

Thursday, September 19, 2013:  Students reviewed ACT Science Reasoning results and test-taking tips.  As homework, students are to read "The Rocking Horse Winner" and answer all questions that follow the story (pages 302-316).  This work will be due Monday.

 

Friday, September 20, 2013:  Students completed the first graded round of multiple-choice practice and reviewed answers via consensus and discussion.  Students are to finish their work on "The Rocking Horse Winner" that is due Monday.

 

Monday, September 23, 2013:  Students turned in their questions over "The Rocking Horse Winner" and completed a "Voice Lesson" over DICTION as bell work.  Each class completed their review of Friday's multiple-choice practice, and students are to read "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings" as homework--questions over the story will be due at the start of class Wednesday. 

 

Tuesday, September 24, 2013:  Students took notes over point of view and conflict, and some classes began taking notes over DIDLS (diction, imagery, details, language, and syntax).  As homework, students are to finish their questions over "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings" that will be due tomorrow.

 

Wednesday, September 25, 2013:  Students continued to take notes in class, after turning in work and completing another voice lesson as bell work.  Students have no homework tonight.

 

Thursday, September 26, 2013:  Students continued note-taking, after completing a third voice lesson as bell work.  Students have no homework tonight.

 

Friday, September 27, 2013:  Students completed note-taking and completed a new round of multiple-choice practice.  Students are to read "Everyday Use" (beginning on page 173) and compose three separate thematic statements based on the story.  That work will be due at the start of class Monday.
