Wednesday, August 17, 2011:  Course Introduction and general information; students are to have all necessary paperwork previewed, forms signed by parents/guardians, and signed sheets returned to class tomorrow.

 

Thursday, August 18, 2011:  Review of essential traits and dispositions for student success, followed by literature textbook overview and "Who I Am" worksheet completion.

 

Friday, August 19, 2011:  Students completed a book pass in class.  No homework was assigned for the weekend.

Wednesday, August 17, 2011:   Students turned in optional summer assignment work.  Course Introduction and general information; students are to have all necessary paperwork previewed, forms signed by parents/guardians, and signed sheets returned to class tomorrow. 

 

Thursday, August 18, 2011:  Review of essential traits and dispositions for student success.  Students reviewed annotation and received a copy of "The Flowers" to read and annotate, as well as respond to questions over, before returning to class Friday.

 

Friday, August 19, 2011:  Students entered class and reviewed the elements of the story "The Flowers" leading up to an assessment of its theme.  Students received home copies of their literature anthology and are to read pages 717-729 (Poetry Chapter One: "What is Poetry?").  As students read through the assigned pages, they are to answer any questions that follow example poems on pages 717-729.  These answers will be due at the start of the class next Monday.

 

Monday, August 22, 2011:  Students reviewed their responses to the poetry questions from the weekend and turned in their work.  Students received a handout and worksheet to use in their analysis of "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" by Dylan Thomas (blue literature anthology, page 968).  The worksheet responses are due at the start of class on Tuesday.

 

Tuesday, August 23, 2011:  Students turned in their Dylan Thomas poetry homework. The teacher discussed the importance of the college admissions essay and announced that a college essay first draft will be due at the start of class this Thursday, and the final copy will be due at the start of class this Friday (August 26th, 2011).  Students are to begin composing their college essays, and complete a poetry analysis worksheet for Percy B. Shelley's "Ozymandias" (blue literature anthology, page 838-839).  The Shelley analysis work will be due at the start of class tomorrow.
