Welcome to Senior English!

 

     

Monday, March 14, 2011:  Students entered class and received the senior calendars.  The teacher reviewed the calendars with students and answered any questions.  Students and the teacher also reviewed upcoming due dates for assignments this week, last week's Multiple-Choice Practice, and looked over the "Beefing up Commentary" work completed in conjunction with the reading of "The Story of an Hour."  As homework, students should read "The Yellow Wallpaper," and complete their SPLOTTS assignment as well as at least one of the four tasks for the independent project that is due Friday.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011:  Students entered class, turned in SPLOTTS work, and finished any necessary review of AP Multiple-Choice practice and SPLOTTS poems.  Students then began reading the first two chapters of Madame Bovary.  Students are to continue working on their independent study projects and read through page 14 of Madame Bovary.

Wednesday, March 16, 2011:  Students entered class and reviewed the previous week's timed writing prompt (dual poetry analysis).  Students had some time to revise their first essay attempt for re-scoring, and then the class briefly discussed the first chapters of Madame Bovary, especially the development of characters.  Students are to continue completing their independent study projects and read through page 22 of Madame Bovary.

Thursday, March 17, 2011:  Students completed a timed writing over the plays they selected for their independent projects.  As homework, students are to complete their independent study projects and make sure they have read through page 22 of Madame Bovary.

Friday, March 18, 2011:  Students reviewed Madame Bovary and the instructions for completion of the Synthesis Paper.  As homework, students are to read through Chapter Nine of Madame Bovary before returning to class on Monday, March 28, 2011.

Monday, March 28, 2011:  Students entered class and completed a reading quiz over Part I of Madame Bovary.  Some discussion of the remaining work to be studied occurred, followed by a discussion of Madame Bovary.  As homework, students are to work on selecting titles for use in their synthesis papers, and read pages 49-61 of Madame Bovary.

Monday, March 14, 2011:  Students entered class and reviewed the Senior Calendar of Events.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011:  Students conducted their weekly word study and viewed a video that offered biographical information about the Romantic Poets.

Wednesday, March 16, 2011:  Students entered class and quickly reviewed characteristics of Romanticism, then looked at some biographical information about Samuel Taylor Coleridge.  Students then listened to a reading of "Kubla Khan." Students who remembered their Holt Readers were able to complete all the side note tasks and the concluding activity over imagery and alliteration; students without their Readers answered questions 1-8 at the end of the poem in the big literature book.

Thursday, March 17, 2011:  Students entered class and accessed their Holt Readers.  A brief review of the first generation Romantic Poets lead to students reading and working through the New Romantics and a representative poem from each.  As homework, students are to study vocabulary for the quiz that will take place during class tomorrow.

Friday, March 18, 2011:  Students studied and then completed the weekly vocabulary quiz.  Remaining time allowed students to finish the Romantic Period section of their Holt Readers or read independently.

Monday, March 28, 2011:  Students entered class and discussed the final work that would be required before finishing the Romantic Age.  Students then completed the weekly word study exercises.
